LET'S TALK ABOUT IT:  RECOMMENDATION LETTERS.

Recommendation letters are COMPLETELY OPTIONAL - anyone can still have a successful recruitment experience with or without them! They give alumnae a chance to introduce and recommend you to their chapter. If you have any, you can send them straight to the chapters (see below) or rest easy knowing your recommender knows how to submit them.

Alpha Chi Omega

Alpha Chi Omega's recommendation process is 100% online through the Alpha Chi Omega Headquarters website, alphachiomega.org. A letter of recommendation must be submitted by an alumna who must be logged in to the My Alpha Chi member portal using her username and password.

Alpha Delta Pi

Alpha Delta Pi happily accepts recommendation letters; it does not require them. Alumnae members can fill out Potential Member Recommendation forms at https://prideonline.alphadeltapi.org/forms/potentialmemberrecommendation/

Chi Omega

Recommendation letters- often called RIFs- play an important role in Chi Omega’s recruitment process!! These letters allow alumnae to introduce a Potential New Member by sharing insights into her character, involvement, values, and more. While they are not required for a PNM to participate in recruitment, they are highly encouraged. Chi Omega Alumnae should submit RIFs for PNMs through Chi Omega at https://everyday.chiomega.com or may email recommendation letters to recruitmented1895@gmail.com.

Delta Delta Delta

We accept recommendation letters via rushddd3@gmail.com, the MyTriDelta.com website, or by mail to our PO Box: 118 College Drive #8361, Hattiesburg, MS 39406! They are encouraged but not required!

Delta Gamma

Delta Gamma welcomes recommendation letters for Potential New Members, although they are not required. Recommendations can be submitted through Delta Gamma’s national recommendation form and may be completed by both members and non-members. For additional information and access to the recommendation form, please visit Recommendations - Delta Gamma (https://www.deltagamma.org/join-our-sisterhood/recommendations/).

Kappa Delta

Kappa Delta recommendation letters allow alumnae to introduce a Potential New Member by sharing insightful information about her. While Kappa Delta does not require recommendation letters, they are highly encouraged. Kappa Delta alumnae should submit recommendation letters for PNMs through Kappa Delta at https://kappadelta.org/recommendation.

Phi Mu

While Phi Mu does not require letters of recommendation, we are happy to accept them! Letters may be emailed to Dayleigh Howell at aophimumembershipdirector@gmail.com or mailed to our P.O. Box at 118 College Drive #8357, Hattiesburg, MS 39406.

Pi Beta Phi

Alumnae have two options to recommend Potential New Members for membership in Pi Phi. The Recruitment Information Form (RIF) can be submitted online, or the paper form can be printed and mailed to chapters. Both the online and paper forms can be found at https://www.pibetaphi.org/join/recruitment. Our mailing address is 118 College Dr. #8376, Hattiesburg, MS 39406.

VERY FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHEN CAN I JOIN SORORITY LIFE?

There are two exciting chances each year to join sorority life at Southern Miss! Primary recruitment happens before the fall semester kicks off, while spring recruitment takes place during the spring. Just a heads-up: not every chapter participates in spring recruitment, so if you want to meet every chapter and experience the full process, primary recruitment is your best bet.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR PRIMARY RECRUITMENT (RECRUITMENT)?

Registering for recruitment is easy! Just head to our Instagram (@southernmisscpc) and click the link in our bio, or visit our website and look under the "Recruitment" tab. (OR you can click here, too.) We can’t wait to see your name on the list!

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR CONTINUOUS OPEN BIDDING (COB)?

There is no "official" registration for COB. You can reach out to chapters and CPC to let them know you're interested. Make sure to fill out the FSL Interest Form, too!

CAN ANY CLASSIFICATION GO THROUGH RECRUITMENT?

Absolutely! No matter your classification, you’re welcome (and encouraged!) to go through the recruitment process. Everyone has a place here.

I REGISTERED FOR RECRUITMENT. WHAT NEXT?

Once you’ve signed up for recruitment, follow @southernmisscpc and all eight chapters on Instagram to start getting a feel for each one. Take your time exploring, and try not to stress; you’re already on your way!

WHAT DO SORORITIES DO? WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF SORORITY LIFE?

While the dictionary defines a sorority as "a society for female students in a university or college," at Southern Miss, it’s so much more than that! Yes, there’s a social side, but we’re just as passionate about scholarship, philanthropy, community service, and, of course, sisterhood. Our members work hard to fundraise for meaningful causes, volunteer in the community, and support each other every step of the way. Wherever you look on campus, you’ll find sorority members leading, serving, and making a positive impact.

Sorority life brings life-changing friendships, endless leadership and service opportunities, academic support, professional networking, and so much more. The benefits truly are endless, and you’ll make memories and connections that last a lifetime!

HOW WILL I FIND THE SORORITY THAT BEST FITS ME?

It helps to do a little homework: chat with current sorority members, attend philanthropy events, and reflect on what matters most to you. Most importantly, keep an open mind! If you go in curious and true to yourself, you’ll be ready to find your perfect fit.

HOW MUCH DOES SORORITY LIFE COST?

Costs vary from chapter to chapter, and we want you to feel informed every step of the way. You can check out our Financial Transparency Sheet for estimated expenses and get a clearer idea of what to expect.

WHAT KIND OF COMMITMENTS AM I LOOKING AT?

TIME: On average, members spend about 2–6 hours a week with their chapter, whether that’s at meetings, sisterhood events, or fun social gatherings. Some weeks are busier than others, but there’s always support if you need help balancing everything!

SOCIAL: Sorority life is all about building friendships, both within your chapter and across campus. There are tons of opportunities to connect, get involved, and make college feel like home.

EXTRACURRICULAR: Many chapters encourage members to get involved in more than one group. It’s a great way to meet new people, try new things, and make your college experience even richer.

BEHAVIORAL: Your safety and well-being matter most. Chapters expect members to look out for themselves and each other, so everyone feels safe and supported.

ACADEMIC: Each chapter sets its own academic standards, usually with a GPA requirement between 2.5 and 3.0. If you want to hold a leadership role, you may need a higher GPA. The good news? There are plenty of academic resources and support to help you succeed!

DO I HAVE TO LIVE IN THE SORORITY HOUSE?

Every chapter is a little different when it comes to housing. Some have specific requirements or fees for living in or outside the house. If you have questions, just ask! Chapters are always happy to help you find what works best for you.

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS IF I WITHDRAW OR AM RELEASED?

If you decide to step away from recruitment or if things don’t go as planned, you still have options! Continuous Open Bidding, also known as COB, is a more relaxed way to meet chapters and get involved later in the year. If it turns out sorority life isn’t your thing, there are so many other ways to get connected and find your people at Southern Miss.

MY STUDENT IS GOING THROUGH RECRUITMENT. HOW CAN I SUPPORT THEM?

Recruitment week can be a whirlwind; exciting, but also a little overwhelming at times. Friends and family can help by being a safe space to relax, listen, and encourage self-care along the way.

KEEP AN OPEN MIND. Greek life isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay! Even if you were in a sorority yourself, remember that your student gets to choose what’s right for them.

ENCOURAGE EXPLORATION. Your student will have an incredible experience if they meet each chapter with an open mind. Every sorority is unique, so trust your student to find the place where they feel most at home.

TALK ABOUT THE NUMBERS. Have an honest conversation with your student about finances before recruitment starts. Decide together who will pay for what and set clear expectations up front. It’ll save everyone stress down the road!

KEEP AN OPEN MIND, STILL! It’s a mutual selection process, so your student will get released from houses during the process; and sometimes things don’t go exactly as planned. There are still wonderful opportunities to grow, lead, and connect in every chapter and across campus.

Above all, remember that this is your student’s journey. Trust them to make the choices that feel right for them, and be there to cheer them on!
